Laptops for the Wounded

Charity golf outing

The Laptops for the Wounded Charity Golf outing was held on Friday, October 13th at Hawks Landing Golf Course in Southington, Connecticut.  I started organizing this outing at the end of August to raise some money to rebuild laptops for our wounded troops.  I am honored by all the support that I received from my friends, family, co-workers, sponsors and the staff of Hawks Landing Golf Course.

The day started off a little chilly, but warmed up to become a clear, sunny day that was enjoyed by all who played.  The game was enjoyable, the beer was cold and the steak and chicken buffet served by Hawks Landing after the game was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

With players, raffles, sponsors and donations, I was humbled after I calculated how much money was raised in this 7-week effort.  We raised $1,600 to rebuild all the donated laptops for Laptops for the Wounded.  I would like to personally thank all who sponsored, donated, and played in this event for raising this money for Laptops for the Wounded to help our wounded military heroes.  I will be starting up another charity golf outing for the same time next year, but I will be starting to organize the next charity outing for Laptops for the Wounded in April of next year.

The next task is now to rebuild the donated laptops and make them capable of using web cams.  For this my wife Kathy is going to take the lead.  She is the IT Help Desk Manager at Open Solutions, Inc. in Glastonbury, CT; and members of her Help Desk team and the Open Solutions Network Support Team have volunteered to come over to our house and rebuild them all with us. With the money raised by the donations, and the volunteering of Kathy’s friends and co-workers to help us rebuild the laptops, we hope to rebuild all the donated laptops by year-end, and to bring them down to Walter-Reed Hospital in January when Kathy and I have vacation time.

Thank you all again; God Bless America and our Troops protecting our freedom to exist.
