Soldier Mother's Prayer
by Laura Brown
My son went to war today
My nightmare since the days of Nam;
Not knowing when I will see him again
His picture always displayed upon my heart.
Johnny, a paratrooper with the Eighteenth
Jumping bravely from C-130's.
His courage is beyond my wildest dreams
As I pray ceaselessly for a safe land in the DZ.
His father, brothers and sister miss him so,
As do I, there seems such a void in our family.
Unfulfilled by photos and memories;
And our fears we must leave at Jesus' feet.
Johnny has gone to war today
But as the old march rings clear,
Johnny WILL come marching home
As God's Grace will see him through.
Mother of SPC Johnny R. Barker
In Mosul Iraq from April 2003 to March 2004
Gratefully returned in God's hands to his family unharmed
