SSgt. Derrick Brown, the NCOIC of the Soldier Family Assistance Center at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC met with Phil and Kathy Drouin on February 2, 2009. At this meeting, a special event was relayed by SSgt Brown about one wounded troops use of a donated Laptops for the Wounded laptop with webcam. During the 2008 Christmas season, SSgt. Brown told us that a wounded troop in one of the Walter Reed hospital wards got one of the best presents ever. Using the laptop and webcam, the wounded troop was able to watch live as his wife gave birth to his child in another hospital!
Hello Mrs. Brown,
My name is SPC KR and I am one of many wounded soldiers in a medhold area in Ft. Dix, NJ and I had a chance to read about what you are doing for my fellow soldiers. On behalf of myself and all the other soldiers injured by one means or another and our families, I would like to thank you for what you are doing. No one has ever tried to do what you are doing now and please know that we appreciate all you are doing. While I read your story, I had an idea that may help you ideas. Perhaps you can contact the different computer companies and let them know what you're doing and if they are a good company, they will usually help you by donating more computers or at least cut you a great discount on the computers because it helps get their name out there as well and most companies jump at any kind of good opportunity to advertise, expand, and circulate their products, especially Hewlett Packard. Perhaps you can look into it and see what they say. Thank you again for everything and please keep up the good work. Soldiers and families all over the world thank you.
Sincerely,
SPC KR
